The weekend past was a most exhilarating one, euphoria emerging from several sources. Actually, the weekend high began as early as Tuesday when the Soca Warriors blitzed St Vincent and the Grenadines 6-0 in the Concacaf Zone second-leg World Cup qualifier, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain.

The Warriors of the 80s and the 2006 World Cup in Germany have spawned new stars to succeed heroes like Dwight Yorke, Russell Latapy, Arnold Dwarika, Stern John, Clayton Morris, Kelvin Jones and Dennis Lawrence. Continuing the legacy are talented young men like Kenwyne Jones, Joevin Jones, Kevin Molino, Sheldon Bateau, Levi Garcia, Andre Boucaud, Sean De Silva and Trevin Caesar.

Another high came on Saturday with the playing of El Clasico in Spain between Real Madrid and Barcelona, won by Real Madrid on its home ground.

Also fuelling the tempo on Saturday were the 3D’s concert and launch of Siparia Fete. The concert was a collaboration between Siparia Deltones and Diatonic Pan Institute, while the Siparia Regional Corporation was responsible for the launch of Siparia Fete.

Diatonic spokesman Janelle Parris told Pulse: “In keeping with the collaborative efforts, the event was given the theme ‘two steelbands, one community’.” She was especially effusive and full of praise for the Desperadoes contingent which accompanied the 2016 National Panorama champion to the event. Parris said: “It was like the whole of Laventille Hill came to Siparia.
